Week 10: Food
Frozen foods month continues and we are storing 5 pounds of protein per person this week. Frozen fish and meats should be on sale. Check the grocery store ads today and see if there are meats or fish on sale that you may want to add to your freezer. I scored last week on shrimp and it is still on sale until Wednesday when the specials change. If there is a good deal on protein today go get it and if not wait to see what next week looks like.
No other nutrient plays as many different roles in keeping you healthy than protein. Protein is important for the growth and repair of your muscles, bones, skin, tendons, ligaments, hair, eyes, metabolism, and digestion. Protein helps create the antibodies your immune system needs to fight disease.
Week 10: Store
This week we are storing paper bowls since that will complete our table service for emergencies and just plain daily, “too crazy to do the dishes” days.
If you have lots of soup and stews stored you will need more bowls than most of us. Begin by calculating, as you have been, how many people you will be feeding and how many days you are preparing for. Multiply that number and store 1 ½ bowls per day. Four people times 30 days = 120, times 1.5 = 180 bowls. For a three month supply you will need 540 bowls. Again, I know this seems overwhelming but you will also be using bowls for snacks and for serving at meals. Think of the recent frozen pipes and no water in Texas. Wouldn't it have been great to have bowls to eat from and for those with power and water, bowls to deliver to those who are without. Remember we are storing only paper that can be burned when trash collection is delayed or non-existent.
