July 22 Week 29
Monday:
Cook a meal using an open fire. You think you will never need to do this but guess again. There are many scenarios including trucking or port strikes, supply chain problems, as well as natural disasters that may leave you without propane or other ways to cook.
Tuesday:
As a family choose a place to leave notes. If you evacuate a family member may not have been informed of your plans and will come looking for you. A child may be with a friend or at school and they will worry if you are gone when they arrive home. Inform your family and your out-of-area contact person where you will leave a note if you are leaving home.
Wednesday:
Have your children practice calling your out-of-area contact. Warn your contact person ahead of time that you will be calling and they should treat the call as if it were a real disaster. Help children feel comfortable calling so in case of a disaster they will be confident making a call if you are not available to make it yourself or if they have become separated from you.
Thursday:
Print Ground to Air Signal information and add it to your Five Day and Auto kits. Practice creating the signals. Rescuers will recognize the meaning if they are searching for you by air. See Totally Ready to print information.
Friday:
As a family draw a floorplan of your home. With colored markers draw two or more routes for escaping your home during a fire. Next, discuss where you will hunker down in case of a storm or tornado. Remember this should be a room without windows in the center of the house or if you are lucky enough, in the basement.
Saturday:
Today add mouse traps to your storage. Following a disaster rodents, snakes, and bugs will all be looking for new homes, they lost their homes too.
