2024 Preparedness - Week 31: Calendar week 30

July 29 week 30

Monday:

Print the article “Survival in Your Pocket – the Amazing Mylar Blanket” and add it to your preparedness binder. The article is already in your Totally Ready Binder if you already own one.

Read through it to understand how you can be using Mylar blankets now, not just during a crisis.

Tuesday:

If you have a two-story home purchase a fire ladder.

Wednesday:

Purchase a wrench for turning off the water in the house. Teach family members where the turn-off valve is and how to turn off the water.

Thursday:

Purchase travel games for use when traveling but also for use in a shelter or during a power outage when entertainment is crucial. For some family fun make your own crossword puzzle for free. Include family history and trivia to teach about yourself and your ancestors.

Friday:

Inventory your lighting solutions for use during a power outage. Do you have:

Glow sticks, Flashlights, Headlamps, Lanterns, Outdoor Solar lighting, Candles? How many of each do you have?

Saturday:

Create a snack pack. Use a plastic box with a lid or a basket and fill it with snacks your family enjoys. Consider fruit snacks, granola bars, dried fruits, nuts, and even a few candies. Rotate these in lunches or when snacking. When you need to evacuate grab your snack pack for eating in the car or when you arrive at a shelter. You do not want to be digging through Five-Day kits for food when stuck in long lines of traffic with everyone else trying to get out of town. Snack packs are also great to grab and enjoy during a road trip.
