August 26 week 34
Monday:
Today it’s whistle time! Add a whistle to all Five-Day kits. A whistle can be heard further away than a human voice.
Tuesday:
Add Mylar blankets to all Five-Day kits. Copy the article you previously added to your binder explaining the uses for these blankets and add that to all adult kits. College students may really need these as they may have to be very creative on their own during a disaster. Add more than one to adult kits because of all the uses.
Wednesday:
Time to add clothing. Remember long pants, long-sleeved shirt, sweater or jacket, five pairs each socks and underwear. You may also want shorts and T-shirts but for clean-up after a disaster, you will want long pants and long-sleeved shirts to protect you. Wet socks should be changed often so don’t skimp on socks.
Thursday:
Add $20 in one and five-dollar denominations to adult kits. Be sure college students have at least $150 total in their kits in small bills.
Friday:
Today add ponchos to all kits. These should be bright yellow or white so they reflect the light if you need to walk at night or in the rain or snow.
Saturday:
Complete emergency cards to include in each kit. Remember the information on your phone may not be accessible and should a child become separated from you their card may be the best way for first responders to contact you. A sample can be found on the Totally Ready blog.
