2024 Preparedness - Week 36: Calendar Week 35

Monday:

Today we begin the month with school concerns. It’s Labor Day, so everyone is home, and it’s a perfect time to discuss school safety. Decide on a code word for the family. Our code word was "station wagon"—crazy, right? It was a word others would never guess. If a child needs to be picked up by someone other than a parent, they can be told the code word. Even if the person claiming to be there for a pick-up is a friend, if they don’t have the code word, the child should not go with them. We don’t want to think that a friend or family member would harm a child but it happens. Most kidnappings and trafficking involve a friend or family member.

Tuesday:

Remember our scavenger hunt for our Five-Day kits? Today, print the list of items for a first aid kit found in your Totally Ready Emergency Preparedness Binder or at Totallyready.com. Hunt for items around the house to include in first aid kits. You will need enough for all Five-Day kits, your auto kit, and a workplace kit.

Wednesday:

Add sanitizing wipes or wet wipes to all adult Five-Day kits (for everyone over 17). If you have three adults in the family, two autos, and two workplaces, you will need 7 of everything.

Thursday:

Place a roll of toilet paper stored in a gallon-size resealable bag in all adult, auto, and workplace kits.

Friday:

Place three pairs of medical gloves in all adult, auto, and workplace kits. You can purchase a large box, and you will have many left over for keeping at home in case of a medical emergency.

Saturday:

Add work gloves to all adult Five-Day kits and auto kits.
