Wednesday's Weekly Food Challenge

Week 20: Food - Peanut (or nut) Butter

This week we are storing four pounds of peanut butter. You may be asking why when we have already stored proteins, I would specify peanut butter. Simple, peanut butter is easy to travel with, most people like it, it is relatively inexpensive, and it stores well. If your family is not a fan or if you have peanut allergies store the nut butters your family enjoys.

Nut butters are a great protein source and during a crisis can be consumed without cooking and even without a can opener. Protein is important for muscle development and strength, important during a time when you may be called upon to do some difficult physical labor above and beyond what you are accustomed to doing. Protein is important at every meal and tastes great in all that oatmeal you have stored, just mix in a little when you are ready to eat for a great way to kick up the same old oatmeal you have been eating for days.

Rotating peanut butter is also very easy as it can be used in cookies, pies, frostings, sauces, dips, shakes, and of course sandwiches.
